Are you a woman with too much masculine energy?

Perhaps you can relate to me, I grew up with a single mother who took care of so many things. Looking back I realised it must have been hard for her but she made it look easy. I admire her independence, confidence, resilience, and drive. However, seeing this meant I was bound to become a masculine woman which I did in some ways. I also was living in my light feminine energy as well as in my wounded feminine.

Especially in this era we are living in, I know there are many of you women who are too much in their masculine energy. Here I discuss the signs and reasons why a woman has too much masculine energy.

Understanding Excessive Masculine Energy in Women

Excessive masculine energy in women refers to an imbalance in the expression of gender traits, where traditionally masculine qualities dominate one’s behavior, emotions, and identity.

Dominance and Control

Women with excessive masculine energy may exhibit dominant and controlling behavior in their interactions with others. They may struggle to relinquish control or delegate tasks, preferring to take charge and assert their authority.

Emotional Detachment

Excessive masculine energy can lead to emotional detachment and a tendency to suppress or ignore one’s emotions. Women may adopt a stoic demeanor, viewing vulnerability as a sign of weakness and striving to maintain a facade of strength and composure.

Aggressiveness and Competitiveness

An abundance of masculine energy may manifest as aggressiveness and competitiveness, particularly in professional or competitive settings. Women may feel compelled to prove themselves in male-dominated environments, often at the expense of collaboration or empathy.

Difficulty Nurturing and Connecting

Women with excessive masculine energy may struggle to nurture and connect with others on an emotional level. They may prioritise achievement and productivity over relationships, viewing vulnerability and intimacy with suspicion or discomfort.

Strained Personal Relationships

Excessive masculine energy can strain personal relationships, leading to conflicts, power struggles, and a lack of emotional intimacy. Women may struggle to balance their assertive and dominant tendencies with the need for empathy, understanding, and compromise in their interactions with others.

Workaholism and Burnout

The drive for success and achievement inherent in excessive masculine energy may lead to workaholism and burnout. Women may push themselves relentlessly to meet high standards of performance, neglecting their own well-being and sacrificing work-life balance in the process.

Physical Symptoms of Stress

Excessive masculine energy can manifest in physical symptoms of stress, including tension, headaches, digestive issues, and insomnia. The constant drive to excel and achieve may take a toll on one’s physical health and vitality, leading to chronic stress and exhaustion.

What makes a woman have too much masculine energy?

Have you ever asked yourself “Why am I so masculine as a woman?”

Contrary to traditional gender norms, the presence of masculine energy in women is not only natural but also essential for their holistic growth and empowerment.

Alas, the problem arises when women are too much in their masculine.

This can be due to a couple of reasons.

Some of us are becoming the men we wanted to marry.

Gloria Steinem

1. Generational trauma

This is when most of the women in your family have been groomed to be masculine. It is passed down from generation to generation further cementing it as a family trait.

Unfortunately, women have been expected to be masculine, especially in the black community. Common phrases are “strong black woman” and “I don’t need a man”. Women who repeat these sentiments have blocked feminine energy

It is not helping women nor is it helping men.

2. Experiencing abuse or violence

Experiencing abuse or violence can result in several trauma responses one being an extremely independent woman. This is a means to cope and protect oneself from ever experiencing abuse again. It is a normal response to such trauma but remember being feminine is not a curse, it is your birthright.

You deserve to feel safe and happy.

3. Living in a society where masculinity is praised

The feminist movement was necessary for women to have the rights that were due to them. But in the 21st century, we have taken that movement so far to the other side that we no longer embrace our femininity. We see being equal as us becoming men.

Society has kept valuing and rewarding masculine traits which has caused the rise of the masculine woman. Women then adopt masculine energy as a means of navigating and thriving in male-dominated environments.

4. Being let down by men in your life

I am sure many women can relate to this one!

Have you ever felt disappointed in a man? Whether your father, a friend, or a romantic interest? I have and I did go into I don’t need a man mode and became very attached to my masculine energy. To cope with the disappointment I became the “man” I expected them to be.

Conclusion

In summary, gender expression is deeply personal and varies widely among individuals. Nevertheless, if you are reading this article it means you are a woman with too much masculine energy looking to change that.
